“KINDNESS HERO” ESSAY CONTEST AND AWARDS RECEPTION

DATE: TUESDAY, MAY 19, 1998

Winners of the 1998 “Kindness Hero” Essay Contest will be honored at the Angels Camp City Council meeting Tuesday, May 19, 1998 at 7:00.

The contest invited students to submit their essays describing their “kindness heroes”; people in their lives who perform extraordinary deeds as a matter of course each day.

Students read their essays aloud to their respective “heroes” at the Council meeting. They later presented the awards to their "Heros" at a special reception honoring both the winners and “heroes.” The dessert reception was held at Mark Twain School at 7:30PM, following the meeting.

Members of the community were encouraged to attend this inspirational celebration. I was there and I have to say the excitement was like an electric current. I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope to be invited again next year.

A more complete list of our plans are;

  • “My Kindness Hero” Essay competition and awards program.
  • Kindness is contagious curriculum for Mark Twain School District students.
  • Kindness is Contagious program for the entire Mark Twain School District.

Goals of the Seeds of Kindness Coalition include:

  • to bridge and unite the diversity in our world through kind acts;
  • to help people value self and others through the expression of kind acts;
  • to foster an environment of kindness which encourages individuals and organizations to work together for a better world; and
  • to support any individual or organization who shares the Coalition’s mission, goals and desire to work together.
